Busy, busy, busy!
It’s been a busy two weeks! I still haven’t figured out where the time has gone and if you ask, I’d just have to lie to you. We’re smack dab in the middle of the semi annual Command Visit right now. If you go to my MSG Det Brasilia page, you’ll see plenty of pics from the horse ride we went on yesterday. It was a pretty good time. I haven’t ridden since 20 March 2002 in Krugersdorp, South Africa and it was definitely a nice change of pace. 1stSgt Booker and I probably had the horses with the most spunk. I was keeping tension on the reins almost the whole time. Every time I’d let up even a bit, the thing would take off like a shot towards points unknown. When it was all said and done the entire group was hobbling around all hunched over like they were the ones being rode hard and put away wet. As I sit here and type this, my kidneys have seen better days.
Cripes! By the way, it’s 0517, I’m working the mids shift and we’ve got a mandatory detachment breakfast at 0830. I’m gonna really be dragging today. Anyway, I’m not sure what our time line on the horse ride was, but we rode for awhile out to an old homestead that had a pretty nice swimming hole next to it and some waterfalls. I had wanted to take a dip, but wet Levis and underwear make a dangerous combination when horseback riding. It’s bad enough on a mountain bike. I’m still compiling other pictures from today’s outing from some of the other guys, so as soon as I get them edited and posted I’ll send out the update.
As you can see this site is going through major upgrades, more so than updates actually, so some pages may be periodically down here and there. Don’t flip out. It’s a matter of maintenance and streamlining and not incompetence.
I’m working on a write up about the people here in Brasilia as they relate to dance and interaction but it’s coming along slower than expected. It’s one of my infamous, drawn out commentaries and I’d hate to post it without taking it through the rigors of multiple editing and revision. I also got some pictures of the Marine House. The one I’ve linked to will have to suffice for now because the other ones were taken solely to point out the areas that are in dire need of repair and renovation. And speaking of the Marine house, there’s rumor of a new one by March of next year when the lease expires. The house we’re in now just can’t support six Marines with water and electricity. It seems to have been built for people who never showered and lived in the dark all the time. I just don’t know sometimes. I’m due to rotate in July-ish of 2004 time frame and maybe with luck I’ll be able to live in a new one. One thing’s for sure, it’ll be built from the ground up meeting all MSG and Dept of State standards for security and recreation. It’ll be cool I bet.
I’m gonna have to cut this edition of New News short… this time. The command visit is over on Monday and I promise to get a timely submission on the web that day sometime. Hopefully it’ll include my story on Brazilians, which as you know, will be the definitive authority on the matter. I’ll catch up with you then!
