2009 Eastern Division [rifle and pistol] Matches results

The 2009 Eastern Division Matches were a success. Half of the team (eight Marines) received medals with five of them returning for competition at Marine Corps Championships being held 6-24 April. Parris Island was the winningest team in Eastern Division.

My awards included a silver medal in individual pistol as well as firing member of both rifle (Elliot) and pistol (Edson) team trophies. It’s ironic how I was the low shooter for the pistol team trophy yet the high shooter for the rifle team trophy. Teams consisted of four firing members, one team captain, and one team coach.

This being my first shooting competition, the “match monkey” had his evil way with me. My adrenaline surged, which is the last thing I needed when staring down iron sights on a rack-grade M16 A2 at 600 yards. I shook like a dog shitting peach seeds. Even my deepest, most serene breaths couldn’t relax me to my pre-match calm. Despite the anxiety, I’m pleased with the results.

Marine Corps Championships combine all the individual medalists from around the Marine Corps: Eastern, Western, Far East, and Pacific. It stands to be quite the event, and I look forward to the challenge.

WHO’S THE PO3? GOOD SHOOTING JESSE JAMES!

Good shooting! Just re-qualled this past week and shot a 232 for 3rd award expert. Was disappointed though because was 7 points lower than last time. But was still the company high for those that went.

I hate to state the obvious but… that’s a lot of shiny heads in one picture.

Need I point out your husband’s head when you met him??

Good job. If you ever get out this way again, we’ll take my Arsenal of Liberty out and you can run them through the paces. I’ve got some old school SA wheelies you might like trying in .44 Special and .45 LC. I’ve got 10mm as well if you want to try that. I’ve got a RR Midlength Handguard M4gery that has a great trigger (sure beats off the rack stuff) among other stuff. Local range is only out to 300 yds (not meters) so we’ll have to shoot in GU area for the longer stuff….

I was on the 1961-62 Camp Pendelton Rifle and Pistol Team. I have lost the few photos (flood) I had of the team. Would anyone know if there are photos saved from that time. Thanks

Do your medals go in your BIR or under awards in 3270? I just got my first medal from divsion matches.

  8. Jayme says:

That’s Doc Miller. She’s the one I thought was going to shoot me during intramurals. Ended up qualifying expert not the base CG wants her as PMI for the female recruits! Good stuff.

  9. Jayme says:

That’s my boy! I’d like to think I had something to do with your upbringing, but aside from busting you balls about TJ, you’ve done it all yourself. Good job!

I shot a 393 pistol for annual requal when Division Matches were over. My personal best and top of the detail. Time to go back to 3d Trax and reclaim the battalion record.

  10. Jayme says:

Hate to say it Bill, but it sounds like a shot in the dark. Even the PI team doesn’t have anything past a decade or so. Let’s hope something turns up. Semper Fi!

  • The author.Born in the year of the Dragon, the author grudgingly accepts the fact he has too many interests and not enough time. A cyclist as long as he can remember, an avid yet inconsistent writer since age eleven, and a U.S. Marine since age twenty-one, the author also adds web design, snowboarding, and motorcycles to his list of interests. Incidentally, he is aware of his inability to make a living from any but the Corps. The author accepts this as fact and remains optimistic. Feel free to drop him a line.
