Developments at jaymekohler.com

11 May 2008 | 4 Comments | Continue reading »

I normally steer clear of the typical “website news” post, but since I haven’t written squat in damn near two months I thought I’d fire one down range to get everyone up to speed on the changes around here. I’ll try to keep it short.

Under heavy construction

I’ve been messing around with my Movable Type installation (the content management system behind jaymekohler.com) as of late, so bear with the down time, broken or absent links, and general confusion as this process continues. After numerous failed attempts and inexplicable error codes, I was finally able to upgrade my old Berkeley database to MySQL […]

Apologies

I’d like to apologize for not posting anything of note lately, but as you can see we’ve been up to our ears with moving the current Marine house between two locations. Due to various contractors dragging their feet, remodeling of the new Marine house didn’t begin until about ten days ago. They now have 60 […]

Consistently inconsistent

Once your consciousness is raised it can never be lowered. A bit of wisdom from Aunt Shirley. Thanks. You would think that after having men on the moon for over thirty years, human ingenuity could keep a stinking reliable internet connection in my room. What kind of primitive, miserable life am I really leading out […]

Not your Father’s Oldsmobile

This is not version 6. This is simply some tweaks and changes that I’m looking into incorporating into version 6, so try avoid feeling so disappointed. I honestly have no idea what version 6 is going to look like. I know what I want in it, but the guts are going to be more difficult […]

I lied

Okay, so maybe I’m not staying away like I had planned, but there are a few new additions to the site I’d like to point out. You now have the ability to comment live on every individual post in my blog. So in addition to the Tagboard entries that everyone loves and has been making, […]

The monster of creativity

I’m gonna take some time off from __________, I think. I’d like to fill in the blank with homework or duty or something equally as distasteful, but I’m afraid jk.com v5 is the unlucky candidate. I hear groans. Maybe I should clarify and say that my feverish design changes are going to slow to a […]

Spring has sprung

Spring is Brasilia is right around the corner. I haven’t noticed a significant change though. It’s starting to rain a bit more. The weather is beginning to pick up. It’s really only a hint of what’s to come. I’m looking forward to the storms and the wind and the rain. I miss real weather, not […]

Jokes and then some

Q: How do you get one week’s worth of homework done in three upper level college courses in three and a half hours? A: Open the books three hours and twenty-seven minutes before they’re due. Q: What has an abnormally elevated heart rate, an uneasy stomach, an eight hour shift of duty in two hours, […]

Down time

4 Sep 2003 | No Comments | Continue reading »

I wish I could say the down time was mine personally, but unfortunately it was that of my website. There were some problems with the FrontPage extensions on the server side. There have been for quite some time. I’ve been uploading FTP this whole time but the free programs tend to clutter up your site […]

The author.Born in the year of the Dragon, the author grudgingly accepts the fact he has too many interests and not enough time. A cyclist as long as he can remember, an avid yet inconsistent writer since age eleven, and a U.S. Marine since age twenty-one, the author also adds computers, snowboarding, and motorcycles to his list of interests. Incidentally, he is aware of his inability to make a living from any but the Corps. The author accepts this as fact and remains optimistic. Feel free to drop him a line.
